Dear Mr. F
It has been said that a scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. We know, we use to say it, sometimes we still think it and we will certainly never forget it. (not even if we want to)
More important than saying those words, we still live them. Maybe not every minute of every day, but we try. Because that is what we were taught and that is what we learned.
It has also been said that a child learns what he is taught. As kids we learned the Scout Law, the Law that we still remember. But we also learned a few other things along the way. We learned the simple things like starting a fire or setting up a tent. Like reading a compass and cooking over a fire. We also learned a few not so simple things like how to lead others and how to follow and when to know the difference. And we learned more difficult but rewarding things like friendship and brotherhood. Last and most important we learned to be Eagle Scouts.
So we have established that we have learned a good deal as scouts. But we have not established how and from whom we learned it. But we will get to that.
Right now we are sitting at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, 164 miles from Springer Mountain, Georgia and 2000 miles from Mt. Katahdin in Maine. Much of what we have learned in becoming Eagle Scouts has brought us here. Much of what we learned on the trail to Eagle will deliver us to Maine. Most of what we learned on that scouting journey we learned from you.
It has been said that Mr. F is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. We know it's true. Thank you and congratulations!
