Well is now the time to tell you this it is all an April Fools Joke, I am not retiring? Sorry, I cant do that!
Not that we did this often, but one year the PLC meeting fell the night before April Fools Day, so I thought it would be fun to play a little prank on the PLC. I drafted up a letter of resignation from the Troop, in the letter I stated why the many reasons I was resigning, some were that no one wanted me as Scoutmaster anymore (which was a lie) and things like that and it was a rather lengthy letter, and I began to read it to the PLC group, but I got to worked up to continue to read it all and I handed to Terry Williams and he read the rest (he was in on it too).
The room was silent and the scouts just looked at each other in disbelief, some of them began to weep because of what was written. I don’t remember the details of the whole letter but it was good. At the end of the note, was Happy April Fools Day, this is a joke and the scouts just burst out laughing, one scout, Mikey Sandgren in particular was visually upset by the note, stood up turned around and said "I can’t believe you got me, I trusted you! He was so convinced it was true, he was pretty animated about his disbelief and laughter, it took him a good 5 minutes to recover from that, and he went home tell the same story to his parents and brothers, it was pretty funny. I wish I still had the note, but it was good for a laugh. When I did decide to really retire a few months ago, I called Mikey to let him know THIS TIME it was for real.
