August 10th

Wednesday, August 10

Depart at 6:55 for the hike we have been waiting for, the hike over Baldy (known to some as Hairy). Nathan is trail leader today and we begin to hike. We stop for a rest and to take off our jackets as it is starting to get warm already. After the break Mr. F leaves his hiking stick behind and Mr. Kirkland goes back to get it for him. We stop at the tree line for breakfast and then head up the final leg of the hike. After a very strenuous hike we make it to the top. The views were breath taking. The weather is great! Some get a view of the Wilson Mesa and some of our previous camping spots. We eat lunch on top, take pictures, play hack and begin the slow and steady hike  downward.   Mr.   F and   Rob    Aronin    are taking  it   easy  on  their already sore knees. While resting on the way down a crew from Kansas begins to pass us and the adult advisor slips and falls. In the process of falling he bends his little finger sideways and it is assumed to be broken. Mr. F tapes the fingers together and they hike down to their next stop. Also while resting Tim Wells finds a rock that he thinks contains gold and will end up carrying it the rest of the way back to base camp. We make it back to Copper Park by 1:00. As soon as we get off the trail half the crew heads for the Red Roof Inn, or more commonly known as the latrine with a roof over it. Our afternoon rain comes and we all take a nap for an hour and half. Rob, Rob and Scott's tent gets wet. After it stops raining we make dinner, which happens to be enchilada's for the second time. It was a cool damp evening. After we do our daily evaluation we talk a little about the quotes on the latrine wall and head to bed about 8:30.
