Chicken Dinner

Updated: Jan 7, 2024

This is a picture of a camporee we did at Oh Da Ko Ta many years ago. It was a Native American themed event (hence the outfit) and one of the leaders brought a LIVE chicken to the campout, the chicken became our dinner that evening. The scouts learned where their food came from. They chopped the head off, defeathered it, and cleaned the guts out and we cooked it. You can still see the feather fuzz on the top picture. Not sure this event could happen in todays position on things like this, it was border line then, but in reality, that is what happens to ALL the chickens we eat today. The Scouts enjoyed the lesson.
