My first youth leaders

I always tell the PLC that every scouts is one bad meeting away from leaving the Troop. This is the people that kept me interested when I first joined Scouting, it is the Leadership Corp of the Troop . Mike Wixom, Bill Woodfield and Chris Kroupa.

"Engaging others to lead" was something that Troop 161 has done extremely well. It is hard to get teenagers to plan for the long game and execute that plan. It was always a great "leadership laboratory" to visit 161 and see the PLC in action, whether that was at a monthly planning meeting or seeing 14- or 16-year-olds take charge of a troop meeting segment. As a then-Scoutmaster of another Racine troop, Tim, Kathy, the Williams, Top, Kiley and others taught me a lot about "truly boy-led Scouting" by letting me observe and by sharing the secrets of 161 success.
