Scouting benefits all!

This upcoming meeting will be my son’s final meeting as an active member of Troop 161. He turns 18 on Dec. 24th. I want to thank you for the many great years he has had with the troop. My Son has really enjoyed it, made some great friends, learned many things, went on some really amazing trips and matured into a responsible, mature young man. I asked him last week if he had a most memorable trip, meeting, etc... and after mentioning how much he enjoyed Lyle (4x) and Philmont he was quiet for a moment and then said that playing violin for Mr. Kiley's funeral probably had the biggest emotional impact on him. He said that by paying his last respect to Mr. Kiley by playing violin it was a gift from his heart that he realized later on demonstrated several points from the Scout Oath and Scout Law. He always looked up to Mr. Kiley and had a great deal of respect for him. Mr. Kiley was the first adult to show continued interest in my son and always asked him how he was doing and then took the time to listen to him when he answered. He mentioned those facts to me several times over the years.

I'm proud of his accomplishments and the rank he achieved. I see decisions that he makes now in his daily life that show respect and maturity. Scouting has helped him form these ideals and character attributes. Although his goal of Eagle was not reached I feel he can be proud of what he did do as I am proud of what he has done and the life he continues to lead.

Once again, thank you for your guidance and direction. My son has learned many things that will serve him well in his life.

If you ever want another drum demonstration at a meeting, I'd be honored to do it again.
