The Importance of Teamwork: Lessons Learned from Scouting"

How scouting has taught me teamwork

By Matt Sisak

Scouting has taught me many things like shooting, camping, and cooking but one skill that I have learned will be one of the most important ones somebody could use. Teamwork is that skill. Scouting has taught me that teamwork is used through everything at all ages like sports, government, choices, and planning. If you don't use teamwork things will be harder. Most things get easier if you have people there to help you. Teamwork is used every day even if people don't realize it you use it in school scouts and even at home. Scouts have taught me without teamwork you can't get anything done; it is much harder to do something all by yourself than it is with a team helping you. Everyone in scouting wouldn't be where they are today or the rank they are without teamwork. Scouts has also taught me that you don't have to be friends to be on a team even if you're not friends or you don't like someone that doesn't mean you can't work together if you do you get to know them better and you become friends over time as you work together. It has also taught me that teamwork helps people emotionally. If somebody is sad or mad you and your friends or team can talk to them and make him feel better. By having multiple people talk to him it's better to have more than one because you can work out the problems in different ways because everyone has their own way and every way is right. Since I've been in scouts I have learned that there are many different ways to do something and with teamwork you can teach the newer scouts how to do one thing then when they are older they can teach the younger ones and it gets passed down this is teamwork also because you can teach the younger ones more valuable life skills. Even when you're older you can use teamwork in places like your job or meeting. Even in running your own business it is still important to know teamwork. You will be more likely to be successful if you know teamwork.  Teamwork is going to be helpful when I go on my trip to philmont because if you get hurt your team or crew is there to help you with first aid or there to plan training hikes for each other to make sure we are prepared and ready to go. This is going to be helpful because the other people that have been there before can give advice to the ones who haven't been there before so we are fully prepared. Without the help from the older scouts and leaders we wouldn't know what to do or probably wouldn't even be on this trip because no one would have teamed up to help us plan this. We don't usually think about it but all the events and meetings require teamwork to plan out and make sure they can be successful. Without teamwork our troop probably wouldn't be a troop anymore because all the people that help are needed to make scouting what it is today.
