During this run of blogs, I plan on sharing some notes and things people have sent me over the years. I don’t do it as a pat on the back, but I do it to share what the youth of the program think about what we as adults do for them. The names that go with these are not important, the message is. While I may have gotten this note, many leaders in the Scouting program could have gotten this note as well, but it was just never written. I have kept these notes and read them ever so often when I have had some bad days in Scouting. Many people have said to me, I can't believe you have done scouting so long, this is why, knowing that I make a difference in the life of scouts like this one and many others who will be represented in future postings. If you have been positively affected by someone in your life (teacher, neighbor, family friend, scout leader, coach) , its never to late to say THANK YOU, sometimes the ones that come out of the blue years down the road have so much more meaning because they know what they meant to you and you still think about them.
Your challenge today, write someone a quick note and thank them for being special in your life. I want to thank those who have done that for me, it means the world to me to know I made a difference. I appreciate your notes.
Dear Mr. Falendysz:
I have greatly enjoyed being a participating member of BSA Troop 161, and I hope to become eligible for Leadership Corps soon. Seeing the opportunities that lay ahead of me is exciting, and being in this troop has given me the chance to lead the others in my patrol. I like the responsibilities that come with being a Patrol Leader, especially attending the unique leadership training weekendsl The work that is put forth by others is always doubled by you though, and that is what shows some of your dedication to the troop. I admire your efforts as the Scoutmaster of Troop 161.
I have been involved in Boy Scouts since the third grade, and never before have I seen an individual with as much drive and aspiration towards Scouts as you. Your involvement in every activity and trip is outstanding. Your motivation has inspired me to participate more often. Even in school, your advice and helpful hints continue to aid me in my studies.
I believe you are a terrific example of a model Scout. You have accomplished the tasks that others can only think of doing. You portray the twelve points of the scout law so well that I cannot think of a time when you haven't shown any given one. Please continue to strengthen our troop with your impressive, and outstanding qualities!
