Boy Scout Broadcast

You could Win it!

This Monday is another great meeting with our program being Minute to Win-it Scouting style. You won’t want to miss it. We will also have webelos Scouts visiting this Monday too, be sure to welcome them to Troop 161, as they prepare to select a Troop to cross over into this spring. Know anyone who would be interested in Scouts at any age, we are always open to more scouts, bring them to a meeting.

Picture This

Have you taken a look at the pictures lately, don’t forget to click the link below and check out the Troop photos. Also, if you have photos to share, don’t forget you can email them to troop161photos@dropevents.com or go to http://dropevent.com/Add/Troop161photos to add photos in bulk. Once I get notice of them there, I can transfer them over to the Troop site for all to see. I know there were a few people taking pictures at Old World Wisconsin, let’s see what you saw in pictures.

Helium Park

Don’t forget to sign up. This will be our November 18th Troop meeting, we need to have a list so we can plan transportation accordingly. Seems that there are some people missing from the list, is it you? Sign up! Let’s HOP to it!

Parent help- Merit Badge Counselor Training

Parents have you ever thought of helping a Scout grow via the advancement program by helping them earn a merit badge? All it takes is to take the Merit Badge Training and you will be instructed on everything you need to know to convert your professional or personal skills into a resource to help our Scout advance. Our Troop will be hosting this training at CBTL (436 Four Mile Rd) at 7 PM next Monday (Oct 28th). If your son is going to make Eagle, he will work with up to 21 different Merit Badge Counselors, so you see the need to have people pitch in and help. There are over 100 Merit Badges in many skills, don’t be afraid to share your knowledge with a Scout, it is a great way to give back to Scouting but more importantly, it is a way to help our Scouts grow. It takes a village to raise a child, do you part in the village! If you are interested contact Kathy Andersen (kla1012@gmail.com) to sign up in advance, so we have enough materials for the training.

Wreath Sales

Are you out selling? You should be, that is how you can make some credit for your account and help the Troop with some Troop expenses like keeping the gear in shape and to pay for all those awards you earn throughout the year. Get out and do your part. There is no reason every scout can’t sell a couple hundred dollars of wreaths as a minimum, but we encourage all to sell more. Just a heads up, that the cost of Scouting will be on the rise in the next year. Membership fees alone are going up quite a bit, not to mention that the Christmas campout and Lyle the two most popular events are also going up, so be sure to get out and sell those wreaths. A few people have told me it is a little harder to sell wreaths this year, if you wait to late, you are going to miss out on sales as others get out and sell before you. If you have not contacted all your past customers already, you may be too late, there is some stiff competition out there taking away your sales only because you let them get to your customers first. Don’t forget, if you have a list from the Troop, you must call those people as some of them are regular customers of the Troop who have purchased wreaths from us since their sons were in Scouts years ago, they are expecting your call.

A New Feature lets call it “Guidebook Guidance”

I would like to use this spot to help people better understand the Troop, so occasionally I will post some clips out of the Scout/Parent guidebooks to remind us all the policies of the Troop. Seeing its wreath time, this one seems like a good one to post.

Scout Accounts - Each Scout in Troop 161 has his own account to maintain credits earned by him through participating in various fund raising activities. Proceeds from these activities can only be used as a credit towards payment for future scouting events like outings and campouts. These payments can be made from the account at Troop meetings or online. Any account that is overdrawn should be brought to balance as soon as possible. A Scout account will be considered not in “good standing” if the account is overdrawn more than $50, or it remains past due 30 days after a Scout Account Statements is delivered. Scouts with accounts not in good standing may be suspended from participating in Troop activities until payment, or satisfactory arrangements, are made.

Thanks

That is it for this week!
