August 3, Camp Edition

Lyle Countdown is down to hours…. A few last minute things…

Gear list (on the side bar under Document library

Don’t forget the Troop web page has some good resources for you.

Totin Chip Rules, Troop Guide book (if you need a review)

And much more…

  • All Scouts MUST have their Class A shirt (Tan) and scarf or bolo for travel to and at camp.

  • If you were are the YMCA a last month your swim test is done, if not don’t forget to pack your swim suit near the top or wear it to camp. Swim checks are in early in the camp check in process.

  • All Meds must be turned in, in their original containers, no pill boxes or baggies. Please only send the amount needed for camp, keep the extras at home.

  • Don’t forget your Scout Handbook.

  • Don’t forget to bring your spending money to put in your money envelope for the bank. Remember to have small bills so you can withdraw it out during the week. At the end of this post you will see the credit you have from your wreath sales that are already in an envelope waiting for you to spend at Lyle. Don't forget to add some money for lunch for the ride home.

  • Pack a big lunch for the ride up. Next meal after leaving home, 6 PM other than this lunch, for some it may be a long day, pack extra.

  • Leave your cell phone at home, Camp is not a place for cell phones or MP3 players, don’t forget to bring a watch, many have become accustom to using cell phones as your time piece.

  • All scouts will be expected to follow the code of Conduct, you can print a copy here.

  • Remember, the only stools youth can bring to camp must fit inside your pack with your gear

  • Please pack your gear so things will not fall off or snag on other peoples gear. GEAR LIST Don’t tie boots on the outside.

  • It is always a good idea to pack in zip lock type bags to keep your things dry and organized during the week.

  • Every Scout must have a water bottle durable to last the week,

  • Scouts, remember you are big boys now, so pack your gear, it is not your mom or dad’s job, parents are free to guide, suggest, coach and evaluate

  • Be sure to label your items, especially your water bottle, uniform and red shirts, all of us have similar ones.

  • Patrol Leaders, don’t forget to bring your Patrol Flags, duty roster and other Patrol items. You can find a blank Duty roster in the PLC toolbox.

  • Parents, please ask and make sure your son has left his cell phone at home. If we find any scouts with cell phones, you may not get them back.

  • If you want to send a care package to camp, send it early to…

Refer to your Patrol Leader or the fact sheets for any more info.

Departure

We will meet at St. Rita School no later than 7:30 AM on Sunday Morning, please be on time. It is HIGHLY suggested you pack all your gear sooner than later if you have not done so already, so you are not making any late night dashes to Walmart.

Extra Food at Camp

I would like to remind all Scouts and make parents aware that the Troop expects all food issued by camp to be prepared. In the past some scouts brought (or parents sent) food that scouts decided to eat instead of preparing the food provided, especially if they were assigned the role of cook or cleanup for the meal, leaving some of the patrol hungry. If Scouts do not prepare and eat the food provided for a balanced meal and decide on eating other food (sometimes referred to as junk food) than we will have to re-examine the care packages and carry in foods that some of you have brought it the past. Not that we don’t like a good home made cookie once in a while, but as a Troop we cannot support that being your main food intake of food any more than your parents would support you eating junk food and soda for every meal at home. This includes food purchased at the Trading Post. So Scouts, don’t let a few junk food junkies mess it up for all, make sure all are cooking and eating balanced meals BEFORE indulging yourself in some bonus treats.

A Scout is Friendly, Courteous Kind… Oh and Helpful too!

Just reminder that all scouts should treat each other with respect, Scouts, if you have any problems with this please let an adult leader or Leadership Corps member know right away, don’t let it be a story for when you get home to tell. In this same situation, all patrol members do have duties on the duty roster and will be expected to follow those duties, so washing dishes one or two days is not being treated unfairly, washing them EVERY day is. Don’t know how to cook? That is fine, ask someone to show you, don’t accept doing dishes for someone else in order to avoid cooking. The adult leaders and Leadership would be glad to help you as well. Scouts help your fellow scouts learn all the skills of Scouting, that’s what makes it fun, learning (and teaching) new things. None of us are proficient in everything, but we can learn.

WHO IS READY TO GO TO LYLE!!! I am stoked!, How about you!
