Welcome to our Cross Overs

Welcome to our new scouts from Pack 161 who crossed over to the Troop last weekend at their Blue and Gold dinner. They will be joining us at the Court of Honor this Monday, so be sure to welcome them to Troop 161!! For our new families, this is the weekly BSB (Boy Scout Broadcast) that outlines the upcoming events and activities on a weekly basis. This is a great tool to keep informed with what is going on with the Troop. Be sure to read it every week and encourage all the scouting family (mom, dad and scout) to keep up to date. Remember, in Boy Scouts we encourage the scout to assume responsibility to keep up with what needs to be done, so Parents, please help us transition that responsibility to your son by getting them to read these every week, that includes those who have been in the troop who have not been willing to let the youth take on these tasks.

Court of Honor this Monday at 7 PM at St. Rita.

Court of Honor (COH) is the quarterly award ceremony where all scouts and at least one parent (but the whole family is welcome) gather to recognize the awards earned this last quarter along with find out about the upcoming events! We have several other things coming up at this Court of Honor, besides our Friends of Scouting campaign, we are going to have a discussion about high adventure this summer and a brief introduction to how we will select a camp for 2016 and more, everyone should be there! Remember to go to this LINK and print out the Court of Honor handout for this meeting and the activities for the next three months. This handout is another very valuable tool to your success as a Scout! You won’t want to miss them. Don’t forget, the password to the document is T161.

Annual Dinner and Eagle Court of Honor (ECOH)

The annual dinner and Eagle Court of Honor will be March 21st, everyone received an invite in the mail and should have RSVP’ed for the event, if not, please do so. Mrs. Koenig will be at the Court of Honor collecting names. Remember RSVP means to let us know if you will or WILL NOT be there, so be sure to RSVP either way (you can email t161annualdinner@mrfsweb.com with your response). Everyone should be there, it is a great event and a great way to get inspired to continue down the advancement trail to Eagle. Scouts, Parents and the entire family are encourage to attend.

Scouting for Food

This year the Scouting for Food dates are SUNDAY March 15th and SATURDAY March 21st. Note the first day is going to be on SUNDAY this year because of the city wide Solo Ensemble that many of our youth are involved in on Saturday. Every family should participate in at least one if not both weekends of the drive. This food is collected for the needy of the Racine Community. If you know what it is like to go hungry for a meal or two, think about what it is like for our needy in Racine, let’s collect TONS of food to help out, they need our help! It also is required if you want to get the Service for America bead. Remember a Scout is Helpful!

High Adventure 2015!

The PLC has narrowed down the list of events to for the High Adventure trip (for those who complete 7th grade or 13) at the time of departure. We have the two following options to vote on this Monday. The two options are:

Option #1- This 9 day trip will start on Saturday, returning home the following Sunday. Highlights of this trip include several national and state parks, the Gettysburg battle field and various monuments, museums, and attractions in and around Washington DC. This trip will be at our own pace and will be more relaxed than what has been described as the "forced marches" of 8th grade Washington DC field trips. Approximate cost is $450 to $500.

OR

Option #2- This 6 to 7 day trip will leave on Sunday, returning Friday or Saturday. A bike tour will take us through southern Wisconsin, ending at the Falendysz family cabin where activities will include water sports on the Rock River, maybe a trip to the Dells for 96 holes of mini golf too, the plan is yours to finalize as a group. Another option, we may participate in a multiple day mountain bike trip through the hills of somewhere one to two days drive away. Approximate cost of this trip is between $200 and $350.

Anyone who can’t make it to the meeting can email in a vote PRIOR to the Court or Honor. Voting is only available to those who meet the age requirement up to the age of 21.

Busy March….

As you can see we have a busy March and a lot of things coming up, be an active scout and participate in these upcoming events along with get signed up for the other upcoming spring events, don’t forget to sign up for Lyle too!

See you at the Court of Honor at 7 PM Monday at St. Rita!

Thanks

Mr. F.
