Greetings to all!

This is not typically a BSB week because we do NOT have a Troop meeting this week, but we do have a Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) meeting, the rest are off this week. PLC members, see you at 7:00 PM at CBTL.

I am taking this week to explain a few things.

Wounded Warrior Wreath Program

This is a new program this year, we handed out a sheet at our last meeting, so it was not in your packets. One of the wreath companies we deal with is offering a plan where if you want to buy a Wounded Warrior wreath. A wounded warrior wreath is a wreath that is ordered on their behalf and donated to the local veteran cemetery to be placed on the gravesite of one of our war veterans. With the purchase of every wreath for this program, the wreath company will also add an additional wreath for the same purpose. This is a great program for the customer to show support for our veterans. Due to size of this program, there is no way to designate that the wreath they purchase goes to a specific veteran. This is very similar to the popcorn option where you purchase popcorn for active duty soldiers. You as a scout will still get credit for a sale on these items and will receive camp credit to your account on the profit for these sales. The profit margin on these items is a little less than the wreaths themselves, but also requires less work on your behalf. For customers who ONLY buy a Wounded Warrior wreath, you should collect the money at the time of the sale and hang onto it till you your wreath money. The one thing to keep in mind, is that these wreath sales have to be in a week or two prior to the end of the sales period, watch the BSB for that deadline date. These are also a great way to sell products to friends and family out of town, all they have to do is send you a payment. Any questions, contact Mr. Simon or the Latyshevs.

Military Museum

Don’t forget about the military museum this Sunday, see you in Class A uniform at St. Rita at 1 PM. Don’t forget to bring you extra money if you want to ride in a tank!!!!

Den Chief’s

The Pack at St. Rita is looking for Den Chiefs. The role of a den chief is to assist the Den leader with the scouts on things like games and other activities. This is a great way to have a Troop/Pack connection and to have a lot of fun with the Cub Scouts. It also is a qualifies for a leadership position for rank advancement. We are looking for 4 or 5 of them, if you are interested, please let me know. The den meetings meet on several different nights of the week, so if you have a preference on a day of the week, please let me know.

Philmont Payment

Some of you didn’t pay the Philmont payment. We have to send the money to Philmont to keep your spot.

Interesting Video

I want to share a video with all of you, that I saw on Facebook last spring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGmunYOJO90 . This video gave me an idea for an upcoming program idea. I talked to a few people and since then there has been overwhelming support for a Troop program. Since then I have talked to PLC and they are excited with the idea and it has become the basis of few opportunities for the fall program. Let me outline some of them;

We would like to bring in some military veterans to a troop meeting. There is a program whereas you can record interviews and they can be submitted to the Library of Congress as record of the veterans service to America, The PLC is still researching the idea, but you the scout would get a chance to sit down and talk veterans and learn about what things like our flag stand for, this will fit in nicely to the mission of the BSA to be good Citizens. What we are looking for is people who have military veterans in their family that might be interested in sharing a night with us at Troop meeting. Grandparents, aunts and uncles or parents. If you know someone who might be interested, please send me an email, I will collect the names for the PLC.

Another Upcoming Opportunity

We have an opportunity to participate in the November 5th Stars and Strips Honor Flight at Mitchel Field in Milwaukee. For those who do not know what an honor flight is, you can go to http://www.starsandstripeshonorflight.org/ and read more about it, but basically it is a program that gets our military vetrans to Washington to see the many different memorials in their honor. I personally have attended two homecoming events and have to say they are very moving experiences. Our Troop is being invited to not only attend this event, but to assist with the process. We will be part of the homecoming crew and will assist as needed, which is an even more awesome experience. As part of this, we will be beyond the TSA filter line which will require all scouts and a limited number of adults to submit information prior to the event to gain clearance credentials. Other scout family members are invited to attend, but will be in the concourse area of the airport. We will be publishing a fact sheet after the PLC discusses this on Monday. We may be looking for the clearance info (copy of Student ID and such) as soon as the October 3 meeting. Watch for a fact sheet on this event soon.

There may be more…

We have a couple other things that might also fall in this category in the coming months, watch for more details.

In Memory of Robert S. Scout camp.

I have been chairing the Lyle Legacy committee for the last 18 months or so and we have been working on the Camp Lyle memories book. We will be introducing the Lyle book at the following event, if anyone wants to attend, click on the link and signup. After the event, the book will be available for sale online, watch for further details on that web page on how to order the book. I am a little bias, but I think the book came out pretty good and think you should order one. Might be a great Christmas give idea for that person who has EVERYTHING!

Committee Members

Don’t forget our September/October Committee Meeting is this TUESDAY Sept 27 at 6:30 PM

Thanks

Mr. F.
