Metalworking Merit Badge

Hope everyone enjoyed the Blacksmithing presentation last week, just to follow up there is options to learn more about Blacksmithing and working on the Metalworking Merit Badge. Mr. Janus is willing to work with anyone who wants to expand their knowledge on the subject. If there is enough interest we can even add another meeting on the subject, let us know what think of last week’s meeting. If you want to work on the badge with Mr. Janus, we will have a sign up sheet available at the meeting on Monday.

Tubing this week, and Chicago next week!

We have two great events coming up, just a reminder to all that Tubing is this Saturday and we will be meeting at St. Rita at 9:15 AM, should be done by early afternoon. Dress warm as the temps will be in the 20’s. Don’t forget hat and gloves. Snow Pants are suggested to keep you pants dry.

For the trip to Chicago NEXT week, we will be meeting at the Kenosha Metra Train Station at 6:30 AM. If you would like a ride to the train station, feel free to arrange carpools with your friends. Might want to make those arrangements at this Monday’s meeting.

Elections

We have Order of the Arrow Elections this Monday, we will have regular Troop elections next Monday. If you are interested in running for a leadership position in the Troop, you should fill out an application HERE. The Troop needs good leaders to run the Troop, is that you?? Be sure to check out the positions available and see if can fit into one of these positions.

Happy Birthday Scouting

This week Boy Scouts of America turns 109 years old. Happy Birthday Scouting! For those who have watched the news over the last months, last week marked the addition of girls to the program and a name change to Scouts BSA, which will replace the section of our program formerly called the Boy Scouts (11-17 yr olds). Cub Scouts, Venturing and all the other names will remain the same. The over all organization will still be under the name of the Boy Scouts of America or BSA. Will girls be joining our Troop? The policy of the new Scouts BSA is that if a girl unit wants to form, they can but Troops will remain separate and distinct groups for boys and girls so the answer is “no”. At St. Rita we have not heard of any interest to do so, so at this time we are not pursuing that option. There are other Chartering Organizations, who currently have a male unit who will also be adding a female unit and are looking for members, so if any families have females who are interested, we can help you find a female unit to join. You can find out more about all this at https://www.scouting.org/ or I can tell you more about it if you are interested, but to keep it simple, I thought I would just touch on it lightly here in the newsletter. My goal was more about wishing BSA a Happy Birthday and to encourage you to watch as a new chapter unfolds in the great history of Scouting.

That should do it for this week!

Thanks

Mr. F.
