June 7th, 2021
This Monday
This Monday (June 7th) will be the Troop Court of Honor and picnic at Crawford Park (behind Pic and Save) at 6 PM. We will have the grills ready for cooking shortly after 6 PM so bring your grillables if you would like. If you don’t feel like grilling, feel free to bring a meal or just come for the event, it does not matter. We will be handing out awards for those accomplishments of the scouts over the past three months. After the Court of Honor, we will have a camp PRE meeting to discuss camp as well. Seeing it is a few short weeks before we head off to camp. We expect Scouts and at least one parent to attend, but bring the whole family. Have your favorite picnic game, bring it along and challenge your troop family members.
Court of Honor Handout
Well after almost a year without having an official handout because our schedule was random as we navigated through COVID changes, we have our handout back, get your handout HERE, the password for the handout is T161. Things can still change, but we put together something to start with, always refer to the latest BSB for any changes to the handout.
Annual Dinner
Don’t forget NEXT weekend is our Annual Dinner and Eagle Court of Honor on SUNDAY, June 13th. We will need help with setup on Saturday as well. We will be meeting at St. Rita Gym at 10 AM Saturday, we can use your help! Please plan on helping if you can.
Med Forms
Been busy with Annual dinner preparation so I have not had the chance to check over medical forms, but I want to remind EVERYONE (both youth and adults) must have a completed medical form for camp and year-round activities. Please be sure to turn them in, we want to get them all this week. We have several things to do with them so we want to have them ahead of time. Please don’t be that family that brings them to the camp drop-off, that makes it pretty challenging for us.
Super Summer
We are introducing our SUPER SUMMER program. We have scheduled many events and activities for an exciting summer. Take a look at the list of activities and sign up for all of them or at least the ones you can make. We know summer is a busy time but it is also the best time of scouting, the OUTING of scOUTING so be sure to get the most out of scouting! We have a lot going on, did you know you can go to the Troop web page, go to the calendar page and open the Google calendar there, and subscribe to the calendar and the info will come up in your google calendar already populated with all the events. Look for the +google icon in the bottom right corner.
Class B Shirts
During the summer, we encourage Scouts to wear the Troop red T-Shirts (Class B). We will have some available at Monday’s meeting for sale, but be sure to check out our USED supply of shirts too, those go for FREE. If you can find your size, it’s a great bargain. Right now the supply is pretty large. On that note, I also want to remind everyone that the Troop has a supply of Class A uniforms (tan shirts) available too as Scouts grow and need a larger size they give us the shirts for the smaller scout to use. If you need a scout shirt, be sure to check out that supply as well. Lastly, anyone who needs a new shirt, please let me know, we also have someone who has donated to the Troop for uniform costs, might be able to help you out with that as well.
Youth Protection
I just would like to remind everyone in scouting, that all communications between youth and adults should include at least one other adult. Youth, whether it is a question about an event, a merit badge or even working on things like Eagle Projects or food shopping, please include a second adult. The first consideration would be your parent, but if not your parent, please consider another leader. If there is a doubt if the email address goes to an adult vs a youth, be sure to include that second person. This rule also applies to text messages. This rule does not apply to adult to adult communications. To learn about this and more about youth protection, I suggest that you see the BSA’s youth protection program. Our troop and the BSA expects all to abide by these rules. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
Data Update
I am publishing the roster of scouts, it’s been a while, so if the information has changed, please be sure to let me know.
- For our new scouts, I might not have both parents because it was not required on the BSA application, so please let me know that missing info.
- For scouts with multiple households, please provide an alternate address if you wish, especially if at times the scout will be dropped off at that location.
- Don’t forget, this BSB can go to anyone you would like as far as emails go. I would suggest both parents and the scout (if they have email) but if there is anyone else that it needs to go to, feel free to give me those email addresses as well.
-Be sure to LIKE the Troop on Facebook and Twitter, the BSB’s goes to that as well, so if you want grandparents or whomever to know what is going on in the Troop, feel free to give them that info. We also occasionally post pictures to FaceBook without last names.
- To set up receiving the notice via text message, text @T161bsb to 81010 and you will be entered on the text group list. I would HIGHLY suggest this idea, cause if we need instant contact to the whole group (for say an emergency or last-minute change) when we are out on an outing, text will be the first line of communications to the whole group. In the past we have used this for instance if we had bad weather in our area, composing an email to the entire group is not as easy via mobile phone as a text is.
- If there is any reason that someone should not have pictures posted, please let us know. As I mentioned we do not use last names and rarely use first names but I do understand sometimes there are reasons that info should not be published on social media, please let us know. If you want any info kept private, please let me know as well. Any info provided to you from the Troop should not be used exclusively for Troop communications. Please do not share outside the troop without permission.
That’s it this week
See you grill side on Monday!
Thanks
Mr. F.
