Guest Speaker this Monday

This Monday we will get a great virtual tour of the Racine Police Department by Officer Simon. Andrew is an Eagle Scout from the Troop who will be great at answering all kinds of police-related questions. Be sure to tune into Monday’s meeting and find out more about the profession of Police Officer.

Who is ready to get back to IN PERSON meetings?

The Troop committee will be discussing our current COVID requirements as the Scout Office has reduced some of the restrictions, the problem is our chartered organization (St. Rita) still falls under the Milwaukee Archdiocese rules which have not changed lately but may soon. We have an additional issue is that Hall we usually use has some renovation scheduled which might also have some bearing on what happens. We are waiting to see what other meeting space they are willing to offer us, but till the rules change, we do not have a solid plan yet .

We also need to decide what we want to do with Summer Camp this summer related to COVID. Camp Freeland Leslie at this point is going to have similar procedures as last year per my discussion with the camp director a few weeks ago. We have also found another camp that might have slightly different rules but similar programs. All that being said, the COVID numbers are dropping AND rules are changing all around the country, and as last year, now more related to releasing rules as opposed to creating rules. Either way, early-bird deadlines are quickly approaching. I believe most camps are allowing for refunds for changes in COVID numbers. If you have an opinion about what we should do, feel free to drop me a note and I will bring it to the committee meeting on Wednesday. I know there are strong opinions on both sides, but I ask you keep it to how you feel about you or your son’s safety related to Scouting activity and leave all the politics out of it. After Wednesday’s meeting, we will have some plans that hopefully will meet everyone’s best interest, and everyone has the best scouting experience we can offer in the safest methods.

Advancement

We had a low turnout for Advancement night last Monday, just want to make sure everyone is thinking about doing SOME advancement. While I understand that many need Merit Badge work for their next advancement, don’t forget to check out the council web page, as new virtual Merit Badges are being added every week. Might be one you need. Also, don’t forget even for online clinics, you need to get a Merit Badge Card in advance, so don’t forget that part too. Lastly, we don’t know what advancement you did if you don’t turn it in, be sure to let Mrs. Andersen know so she can get it recorded and awarded.

That’s it for this week

-Thanks. Mr. F
